Swingmap ("the app") helps you find local dance classes, lessons, and socials. We respect your privacy and keep data collection to an absolute minimum.
Browsing is anonymous: no account is needed to find events, and we do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party trackers.
If you choose to create an account (optional, and only needed to confirm listings under your name, RSVP, or sync favorites), we store:
There is no password. Signing in means receiving a 6-digit code at your address, so possession of the email is the credential.
The app keeps a local cache of event listings, your favorites, your theme choice and, if you use the contributor features, a passcode — saved only in your device's local storage. If you are signed in, your device also stores an account token (this is what keeps you signed in) and your favorites are mirrored to your account.
If you tap "Add to Calendar," the app adds that event to your device calendar. This happens entirely on your device — we do not read, store, or transmit your calendar.
If you subscribe to your personal Swingmap calendar feed, the link contains a random, read-only token that maps to your favorites and RSVPs. It cannot be used to change anything in your account, and you can reset it at any time from Settings → Calendar subscription, which immediately invalidates the old link. Treat the link as private: anyone who has it can see which events you saved.
If you tap "Use my location," your device's coordinates are used on your device to pick the nearest city, and then discarded. Your location is never sent to us or stored.
Event listings (venues, times, styles, instructors) are public information served from our event database. Contributor-submitted events include a public source link.
Confirmations and RSVPs are community signals attached to public listings. Your display name is shown with a confirmation; your name is shown with an RSVP only if you opt in, though the count ("3 going") always includes you anonymously.
You can delete your account at any time — in the app under Settings → Delete account, or on the web at swingmap.dance/delete-account without installing anything. Deletion is immediate and permanent, and removes your account, your email address, every listing you confirmed, and every RSVP. The event listings themselves are community data and remain.
The app fetches listings from our backend (hosted on Google Apps Script / Google Sheets). No personal data is shared with third parties.
The app is rated 4+. Accounts are optional and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change accordingly.
